Can anyone give me a comprehensive overview of Big O notation and time complexity in general?

I am going to appear in an interview soon for a junior developer position. In the last one, the interviewer asked me to explain time complexity in simple English and I failed spectacularly.

No matter how much I try, I just can't wrap my head my around the concepts. Could someone be generous enough to give me an overview of time complexity and big O notation?
