Getting started with accessibility in web
The web is accessed by a lot of people and there is a need for it to favor everyone no matter the state. A website should be accessible to everyone, including visually impaired people. We wanted people to learn about it so they can restructure and put it into consideration when deploying a site. We partnered with our friends 'Developers Student Club, UNILAG', and 'Engineering Career Expo' who are existing communities in the school to host the event. We invited Jemima Abu, a front end developer at Telesoftas who discussed the topic extensively.
The event was held on Saturday, 25th July 2020, and the session lasted for an hour with the presence of about thirty attendees. The speaker shared her slides, and we sent it around after the event so people can refer to it later.
We learned that we could be sued for the inaccessibility of websites to visually impaired individuals, thus the need to take precautionary measures when designing.
In all, it was an enlightening event; we look forward to more of it.
