How to get daily trending Github repos by forks?

I am interested in following what's up in the world of free software, but i find that stars are not a good metric. Ideally, i would check Github for daily trending repos *by forks*, but this seems to be impossible, neither from the web interface nor from the programming interface (API).

When searching by forks, it is possible to get repos sorted only by total forks, not by forks on a time period. This way it's hard to follow the really interesting trends. Everybody adds stars to Github repos, but it's repos where people actually contribute that are truly interesting, to me at least.

Any clue about where to get this information?
