The Rise Of The Programmer

I am thinking about the future a lot these days, it is the focus of so many conversations I am having with friends. Many people ask me " what about factory workers? what about this massive displacement in the work force that is coming with the rise of the robots? ".
What I tell everyone is that more and more people are going to be required to maintain this BEAST we have created called the internet!
I think of amazing possibilities -
- Vertical AI farming
- AI landfill mining
- intricate robotics for surgery
- robots that can scrub the ocean and remove trash
- robots that can fix oil spills
- AI that systematically search the cosmos like never before
- Robotic body parts
- Virtual reality
- More advanced global communications
This list is seemingly ENDLESS
So my question:
There seems to be a massive lack of programmers, do you agree? What do you think about the demand for skilled programmers? How do you see it changing? What areas seemed most empty? Programming just seems like the place to be, do you agree?
