Ways to upload databases?

I've been working on several case study projects with .NET which involves communication with databases. However, they were all local host making connection string something like: ".... Data Source: C:/......".

Is there a way to upload database online so the con string be like: "..... Data Source: [link here]......" and still be able to read/write?
