What are the tools and techniques used by Instagram to make it an Isomorphic app?

I know Instagram is Isomorphic and is built with React. But I find it very hard to create a snapshot on the server and send the React state to the client. I have two questions :

1. How did Instagram handle the above problem with React and Flux?
2. What do they use in backend along with React?
