What's the best way to store Follow/Following relationships in a web app?

I am creating a web app with MongoDB and Ruby. One of the modules in the app allows people to follow each other to receive updates. I was wondering what could be the best way to store these relationships? I read that MongoDB is not suitable for storing such relationships. Should I use a Graph database like Neo4j for follow/following system?
