Well written and very complete! My search on “Visual Studio vs. Visual Studio Code” gave this page as second hit in the list on DuckDuckGo. I’m going thru my 3rd AWS cert and the instructor suggested VSCode, which I had never heard of. I knew about Visual Studio as Microsoft’s proprietary IDE analogous to Apple XCode for iOS and MacOS. I used to do dev for compiled apps before learning Python. Your page brings back memories of compiler integrated IDE’s. I’m no longer sure they add much value as I can use gcc from CLI and get the same warning, error, and line number info. VSCode looks interesting, I’ll use it for my AWS class but for Python, I will continue using PyCharm on my Mac. I don’t use any legacy Windows platforms any more so all .NET stuff is also legacy to me.
