I don't like the term code smell at all. There may be truth in it sometimes but I find that it's something that programmers with an elevated opinion of their own abilities say to their more introvert colleagues across a meeting room. It just contributes to a lousy work environment.

Hey Philip Beck, that's an interesting point of view!

I agree that telling someone that their code "smells" isn't cool at all.

I see it as the code smell is what you feel when looking at the code, but then during a code review you don't necessarily use the term "smell" but rather tell what you think can be improved.
