Hi Sandeep, thanks for very detailed information on DIrect Lake. I understand that at the moment calculated tables, calculated columns, calculation groups etc are not supported.

However, any idea if there are plans to support them in future?

Thanks, Sanjay

Hi Sanjay, thanks! DAX cannot be used directly in pyspark or SQL so DAX caluclated columns and tables wont be supported. You will need to use Python. Or when the sempy library becomes available, you will be able to run DAX measures in the notebooks using python which will allow you to add calculated tables/columns to the dataset. It wont be as straightforward but possible.

Thank you Sandeep for the excellent post.

Your answer to "When and how does caching occur?" Could you explain the settings on Fabric Dataset caching, how do different settings change your answer?

Where I see potential for this is a real-time dashboard using structured streaming. If you want to make a real time dashboard currently, it looks like you need to structure your schema in a different way (eg streaming datasets should only hold temporary data). Using direct lake with structured streaming seems to not have this limitation. Can you do a blog post covering this?

Hi Sandeep Pawar., thanks for teh very detailed article and explanations. When it comes to fabric costs, if I have a f64 license do I have a free storage quota on onelake like it was with power bi premium or with fabric storage always has a related cost ? Another doubt is, when a connect through PBI desktop to a lakehouse, does it inccur in egress costs ou it depends onthe storage model(Import, direct query/directlake)?

Regarding the question "If I create a table in Datawarehouse, can it be used for Direct Lake?", do you know if this has changed? From the Microsoft Learn site "directlake-overview" it appears that Warehouses are now supported for Direct Lake. I did a test using Performance Analyzer in Power BI Desktop and it didn't show "Direct Query" for a table in a Warehouse. So can I conclude that Warehouses are now supported for Direct Lake?
