What are Server Actions in Next.js? Next.js 14 Edition

Server action are convenient to use. But one thing that's not flexible is authentication and middleware to the actions. In addition, when you call a server action from different route, their URL (route) as recorded by the server is different, this surprises me. In summary, it's complex stuff essentially, but with a simplicity mask.
