About Me
Olajide Adejoke Deborah, a dedicated advocate for the preservation and promotion of the Yoruba language and culture. She pursued her higher education at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, Lagos, Nigeria, where she earned the Nigeria Certificate in Education in Yoruba/Social Studies in 2003. Continuing her academic journey, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Yoruba Education from Lagos State University in 2008, followed by a Master of Arts in Yoruba Literature and Culture in 2015. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Yoruba Language, demonstrating her commitment to scholarly excellence. In 2009, Olajide Adejoke was appointed as a Yoruba Language Consultant by the Lagos State House of Assembly, playing a pivotal role in the implementation of Yoruba language usage in legislative proceedings. As the officer in charge of coordinating and producing parliamentary proceedings in Yoruba, she significantly contributed to the enactment of the Lagos State Law on the Preservation and Promotion of Yoruba Language. Additionally, she serves as a part-time lecturer at the Department of African Languages, Literature, and Communication Arts at Lagos State University, where she imparts her extensive knowledge of Yoruba language and culture to the next generation. She is an active member of the Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria (YSAN) and Egbé̩ Akó̩mo̩lédè àti Àsà Yorùbá, Lagos State Chapter, demonstrating her involvement in scholarly and cultural organizations dedicated to the advancement of Yoruba language and heritage. In recognition of her contributions, Olajide Adejoke was honored with an award from the Yoruba Elites Club, Munich, Germany, in 2021. She is also the author of the book "Ìlò Èdè Yorùbá fún Is̩é̩ Ìs̩òfin" ("The Use of Yoruba Language in Legislative Business"), published in 2021, further solidifying her reputation as a thought leader in Yoruba language advocacy. Driven by her passion for indigenous language education, Olajide Adejoke expanded her skill set by acquiring certifications in Software Testing and Cloud Computing from Hagital Consult, Lagos, in 2023. Her continued presence and efforts at the Lagos State House of Assembly reinforce the importance of Yoruba language in parliamentary proceedings. Furthermore, Olajide Adejoke actively facilitates both virtual and physical training sessions in Yoruba language, both domestically and internationally, furthering her mission to spread knowledge and appreciation for the richness of the Yoruba language and culture.
