Not sure if you're talking about applying for a position remotely, or just starting doing it. If you're thinking about doing it with your current employer, I have a few recommendations:
Have a good plan for socializing. I've been doing remote work for six years. It gets lonely, and I'm on the introverted side.
Other than that, make sure you have a decent setup at home as far as desk, comfortable ergonomic chair, the right communications methods (phone, chat, whatever), fast internet. Also, make sure you are disciplined enough to actually work without getting too distracted. And I can't emphasize enough having a UPS for when the power goes out.
Joe Clark Can't agree more. Socializing.. As much as working from home have a lot of perks from some people, there are lots of side effects and most important of them is socializing. In an office environment, you go kitchen to grab a coffee, see some co-workers and have a quick chat about the game last night, or stop by some friends desk, go team lunches or get-togethers. You may not have those when you are remote.
Another few things I can say is over-burning and high-expectations. For some people because you are WFH you don't have office hours. They will ask you to do something at 5:25. Since you are already at home you don't need to leave at 5:30. Be strict start and leave your work as you were at the office and make sure other people understands that. Otherwise you will be working hours of hours extra. Which then will let you overburn.
