I am Christine Mae Sarito, from the sugar-producing province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. Currently, I am a PhD Candidate at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS), University of Bonn. My PhD dissertation addresses how the kisaeng (기생ㆍ妓生ㆍprofessional female entertainers) navigated the public space of Neo-Confucian Chosŏn Korea in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
