Intro...

Hello all, There is a lot of confusion for the noobies who want to start their career as a Game developer, As there are many platforms out there to play games on like pc, mobile, and console. So at the initial stage of the career, we will have that confusion about which platform to build the games for. When web browsers introduced the canvas as a feature of Html5, a new community evolved as the Html5 game developers.

Listing a few differences that I found between them to help beginners to start the career.

Game Developer

Mostly the Game developers refer to those who develop the games for devices like mobile, pc, consoles. The technologies that are required to be a game developer are C#, C++. and game engines that are mostly used are Unity, UnrealEngine. Though these game engines need a bit of coding knowledge there are features like visual scripting for the people who don't have the coding knowledge.

Html5 Game Developer

The Html5 game developers refer to those who develop games for the web in specific. So there are many advantages in building games for the web, as we can play the games on any device which will have the browser installed. Javascript is the programming language used by Html5 game developers. there are many game engines out there to build games on the web, I am listing a few of them which I have been using PhaserJs, Cocos Creator. and if you have a passion to develop the games and don't have the coding background I would recommend you to use Construct Game Engine it is not opensource though.

I have been in this industry for quite a long time and I can see the immense growth in the industry in the past few years. early days of my days I could not find the job posts in the job portals. In recent times I can see a lot of them.

So if you are looking to start your career as a game developer and you have a basic knowledge of Javascript please consider Html5 game developer as an option.
