I'm creating a single page portfolio. What's some contemporary technology I could use that isn't a JS framework?

I'm redoing a portfolio of mine and I want to take the opportunity to uses trendy technology as a learning process. However I don't want to use any JS framework like Angular, Vue, React.

Why?

It seems like overkill. I'm not making a web application. My portfolio will be well designed and present images and text.

Most of my experience has been in Wordpress, HTML, and CSS. I'm trying to implement other technologies or processes to make this interesting.
