It all began when I saw an advert posted on twitter by official twitter handle of the Kwara State government (@followKWSG). I saw the advert to apply for a fellowship program on programming and that is what I did. Shortly after application, I got a mail confirming my admittance into the program which kick started on 4th of May, 2021.
It has really been a big bumpy ride so far but I still hope I go further than this with Tiidelab. Despite the fact that our classes and meet up has been virtual so far, I have learnt a lot in the last few weeks than I have learned through other sources in months. It’s really great working alongside Tiidelab officials, the coordinator and instructors.
I am glad I made it to the finals along with a bunch of other finalists. I know they all might feel the same way despite the sleepless nights, the large usage of cellular data, meetings, long classes/ tutorial videos, weekly tests, competitions, assignments. The competition between us fellows in particular is one of the thing that I think gave us the drive and determination to strive harder and aim for gold. It kept me up at night, it made me discover new things, and made me see things from different points of view.
The instructors are one of the things that impresses me the most about the whole fellowship. They were so open to all kinds of questions, available and comprehensive. For me they break down the complex processes to the elementary level and even use funny and real life examples during the tutorials and the whole process. At a point it started getting emotional and I felt the “connect” even though we haven’t really met in person before, not just with Tiidelab and its personnel, but also with the rest of the participating fellows all around the country.
We all have a bit of challenge we faced along the way which I can say it’s quite unfortunate because it really hindered a lot of us from achieving more, me included. This problem is majorly electricity and expense of cellular data. I encountered the electricity problem during the final project. I almost wasn’t able to meet up with completion of the project and submission time but I had to make some sacrifices and fortunately I was able to achieve something, not a hundred percent but it’s quite impressive.
In conclusion, what I was able to achieve at the time of the final project was a good achievement to me, on a personal development level, I can say this program aided my personal development. So I say a big thank you to Tiidelab, the organizers’, the sponsors and everyone else that made this possible, Thank you.
