Six spaces for indenting: acceptable, or bad practice?

I use six spaces for indenting all my HTML and CSS codes. Recently, a coworker said it was excessive and considered a bad practice. Is that the case? I think six spaces make it easier to identify the DOM hierarchy. I found anything less to be a productivity killer.
