What are the essentials of a PHP MVC Framework?

I am thinking of writing my own custom PHP MVC Framework for personal use and maybe be of help to others too if it meets my need and coded to standard.

I know i am not a professional like everyone else, but I can start up something and see where it leads. What things do you think a PHP Framework should have. Are there any resources or journals out there.
