What is the ideal designer developer workflow?

A while ago I read this article on a designer-developer workflow.

The article discusses how the team makes use of GitHub issues to open new “design spec” issues and how the developer takes it forward with the implementation part. It is a good read.

What are your thoughts on this designer-developer workflow? Being a developer, what is the workflow in your company when you work with a designer; or vice-versa?
