I think this is fairly a heavily used feature in my opinion and have seen several examples in devto platform. The image attached within is the example of an 'a' tag where I could provide an 'id' and reference it in my markdown for navigation.

Also, the markdown editor example guide could be improved to include some examples of what you mean by 'in-line' editing, just like the other ones such as bold, italic, etc.
