Hey everyone! I am starting a bragging thread so that everyone can chime in and tell what result they are very proud of! It can be personal or professional - doesn't matter as long as you are proud of yourself. So, come forward - it's time to brag 😉.
We'll place the best ones in the newsletter and also tweet about them so that your achievements get more exposure. 😃
In chronological order:
Alongside my mentor Dunja (@dunjardl over here) worked on building a collection of high-quality tutorials that helped thousans of developers. I was studying hard for months just to be able to grasp what the tutorials were about. At that time my background was English language and literature + some prior knowledge about Linux. It was hard, but absolutely worth it. I fell in love with web dev and DevOps topics.
Learned how to and completely developed a website for a company I was working with. All the focus was on product development, and there was no dev time to spare. This separate website was supposed to be used by the HR department. I had to write full content, develop it, deploy it, and write instructions for non-techy people to understand how to make changes to it, as well as instructions for maintaining it for the DevOps team. I loved every moment of, though I'm not very skilled in this department and had to deal with a static site builder.
Being part of the amazing team behind Hashnode. Truly happy to be here :)
My template engine, SquirrellyJS. It has a syntax like Handlebars and Mustache, but is extremely fast: according to this benchmark, it's faster in 90% of tests than every other template engine.
I also made a documentation website for it, which took a lot of time but which I'm proud of as well.
It's been a project of over a year, but I can finally say that I have a working project! It's a nice feeling.
When I was in school, I read about Brainfu*k language and felt that I can implement it in C language as it has only 8 operators. Later, I read that Brainfuck is turing complete and understood turing-completeness. It made my day.
Hi, it's me Alfonso 😄
This year with my team i started developing a complete system to implement IoT in hotels (backend, hardware using opensource tech, mobile apps), it started as a school project (i'm in 5th semester in systems engineering) and it got 1st place in a competition about innovation and business applications. Got a lot of attention and we even got invited to 2 medium sized corporations in Mexico city that work with IoT for home automation. I'm very happy about all the results and the fact that i started from developing plugins for a Minecraft server, to create software that powers electronics and mobile apps makes me wish i had started earlier, but i'm still very happy about all the progress i've made as a person and also professionally. We hope to launch next year our product, we've already made a local test in one hotel of our city and so far the feedback has been great, we offer things like automation, improved security, energy savings and a better way to know the city with a tourism section integrated in the app.
And this is my most awesome achievement so far, i hope is not the last one
I will go first:
I created Hashnode along with Fazle. I am very fortunate to meet you all and learn from you in the community. So, obviously I am very proud of the result and really enjoy running Hashnode.

2018 was def a year to remember for me, as it's been up and down all year. Last January, I broke up with my gf of 9+ years, moved out of the house we bought together, and left the dog I had pretty much raised since he was months old. I also had to end a freelance gig I was doing to put more time into a side project of mine. I really liked the guy and we got along great, and we're still friends today, but I didn't have the time to devote to him. Suffice to say, I was not doing well personally.
I was also looking for a new partner for an online bartering site I had developed, and found one. She was perfect for what I was looking for, which was someone with extensive marketing experience. Over the next few months, we built up our user base, allowing hundreds of folks (this was primarily based out of the Boston area to start with) to exchange goods and services for free, and that was a really nice feeling to provide that for others.
Personally, I was rebuilding my life, found my own apartment (it was nice not having to crash with friends), even met an awesome beautiful lady, and managed to go to a bunch of concerts this summer (live music is my life drug). However, my newfound partner had some life events happen to her, and she was unable to continue with the project. I ended up shuttering the site a few months ago, mainly because I was burnt out with trying to put together the right team to move it forward.
Now it's December, and it looks like I'm going to end the year on a high note. I have a new freelance gig, my 9-5 job is going well, and I've partnered up with some fine folks to start up a community that should (and WILL) help out the disability community in a new innovative way (for those that don't know me, I have a disability and do a lot of disability advocacy work), which is something I'm super proud of. I finally feel like my life is back on track, and to top it all off, my lady is still with me :)
So what do I want to brag about? Well, life right now is pretty damn fine, and I'm super excited about my new project, which'll be launching in the next few months :)
