And what are the other trustworthy options for free private git repositories?
100%. The way they handled their crisis was fantastic as well and very very transparent. Companies do screw up sometimes, it becomes a problem only when they repeatedly do it.
They have a fantastic track record as a company except for that one day, AFAIK and have a beautiful product out there.
I want the person who has never made any mistakes to reply here...............
Of course they can still be trusted! I remember when I think either Taco Bell or Jack in the Box blew up in the media for serving up e coli like 20 years ago... Sometimes, right after a company gets slammed like this, it's the best time to become a customer, because you know damn well that they are being extra careful, taking extra measures, and learned from their mistakes.
Now, if it were to become a pattern over time, then I would say no. But one time? Fine by me. In fact, the companies with the clean records I worry about: What are they hiding and/or when will their "luck" end? :)
BitBucket offers free repos. Does anyone use that?
For private personal repos I just pony up the $7/mo and go with GitHub repos.
Of course yes. I store all my private spaghetti code there and paying 0$.
if you maintain it yourself gitlab works just fine :) i had no problem the last 2 years :) there is a go alternative though :)

I'd say i trust them even more after i've seen how they handled the situation. Promptly and out in the open. Trust is a very personal thing though, and if you find yourself having doubts, the alternative is bitbucket.
