Enhancements in Microsoft's new browser "Project Spartan"

Microsoft announced a new browser last week codenamed "Spartan".

Here are some of the important enhancements.

It's powered by a new rendering engine called EdgeHTML.dll. Windows 10 has it integrated already.
No more VBScript.
No document modes.
Removed remnants like X-UA-Compatible, attachEvent and currentStyle.
More support for HTML5 and CSS3.
Flexbox comes to life in IE.
Preserv3D, Web Audio, Touch Events, Media Capture API, Content Security Policy and HTTP/2 are supported.
Sopport for ES6.

What are your opinions about this browser? Is it the beginning of a new Internet era free of IE Compatibilities?

Here are few problems that still remain unresolved —

We still have users using Internet Explorer 8 and below.
Backward compatibility is still a problem.
This just another new browser. This time from Microsoft.
They should have adopted WebKit.
Microsoft will still force users to use their browser instead of making it optional.

I don't think we are looking at a "new era of Internet".

@tracy_mills91 No problem. Just keep in mind that some competition is actually healthy. If Webkit was all there was then innovation would be slower I think. Now you've got multiple parties working on multiple engines and browsers, trying to stay ahead of the competition which spurs innovation. :)

You wouldn't want to live in a world where the only OS was Microsoft Windows, right? ;)

Internet Explorer 8 is pretty much obsolete, but remains mostly in corporate environments. It is no longer supported by Microsoft, so that's also something to keep in consideration. Internet Explorer 8 is now almost 6 years old, so I'd say "Upgrade or be left out"... But that's just my opinion.
Spartan has 2 engines, the older MSHTML engine and the new EdgeHTML engine. It will pick the proper engine depending on doctype and other meta data, so that shouldn't be much of an issue (theoretically).
There are a LOT of browsers, so adding one more shouldn't matter, should it? ;)
Why would they? Webkit/Blink is really good, but a bit of competition is always good I reckon. Firefox uses the Gecko engine, which does the work just fine too.
That's still true unfortunately :(

I agree it's not a "new era", but I hope that it will be a much needed improvement for Internet Explorer users . Not all people are as tech-savvy as we are (speaking as a developer).
