You should get started with Web development (HTML, CSS, Javascript). Take a few online tutorials to get the basics down. Then just get started trying to build something simple, as a practice project. Anything that reads data from some Internet service (e.g. a reddit clone that reads from the reddit API). It's here that you will actually learn the practical skills you need to pursue a career in programming. I really don't think you should go back to school. Instead, if you spend that same time learning by doing, you will be much better equipped to work as a professional and you can at the same time get a part time job doing something else to provide for your family.
