Many devs have reached out to us requesting for a personalized feed digest. We are thinking to take inspiration from Medium here and send automated personalized (topics you follow) emails to interested users.
Would you be interested in this email digest? If yes, would you like us to send it frequently (multiple times a week) or once a week?
I like the idea, but it's important to do it in a way that doesn't feel like spam and really feels "personalized".
The most active people on Hashnode wrote here, so it's normal to see so many "nah"s, yet for more casual users, which checks Hashnode from time to time, this could be a convenient way to see more of Hashnode and the community.
No I don't like that feature in medium. It feels like medium is begging it's users to read. Hashnode has been a really good platform. Please don't add this digest feature if you did I won't use it much.
Ehh, what can I say that others did not? Personally, I think that people that are regulars say that they don't need that email, however, people that are not regulars may just need a weekly reminder of this site.
Having it as an option (obvious checkbox) can work.
Once in a week would be fine for me. However I may not look into that very actively as I am very busy on HashNode Itself :-)
I would suggest, we evaluate the persona requesting for it. If that are in good number, we must go for it. I am happy with wandering myself in HashNode now and enjoying it so far!
[Edit] - Forgot to mention: Many of my Friends and Colleagues and big fan of the Medium's digest based on their interest and crawl.
I'd suggest daily is a definite no-no. For the most part I agree with j and once a week would be fine. The email doesn't become special otherwise and/or the article in question wont have enough time to gain traction within the community.
Personally I wouldn't use it as I'm on hashnode everyday and I still mainly use it for the Q&A section, on the most recent view. I actually hated the Medium emails everyday/week. But I guess the majority of my upset came from the lack of useful and more importantly accurate information within the articles. This kind of moderation is something I would like to see implemented in Hashnode, however I do recognise that this would be quite the complex task. #dictatorship #jokes. I really don't want hashnode to turn into a vortex of useless or just plain bad information that people end up following because its currently the in thing to do. #sorryForTheMiniRant.
Perhaps guidelines can be created on how to create good, accurate and useful information - similar to how stackoverflow suggest a user creates a question.
As for the digest itself, perhaps something along the lines of only the nodes the user is following and the most helpful for that week - if nothing has been posted then nothing gets sent - or could add a button to invite them to create content for the node if not much is going on within said node. Then also choose the specific nodes you wish to be updated on. Maybe even users. I know a few users push out really good content, but only do it occasionally so that would be good to watch for.
It would be interesting to figure out the balance between promoting new content from new users vs new content from existing users who already have a larger 'following'. Giving both a chance to reach the audience.
tl;dr useful => yes. But a fine balance is required to make sure it works and definitely not more than once a week.

Speaking of which - it would be good if users could select which tabs are their home page. i.e. I'd like to hit / and be on /discussions/recent
No for me, since I am on Hashnode every day anyway and consume the recent feeds instead of "for you"... So, in general, I don't really miss anything interesting imo.
For others, though, a clever algorithm might be able to dig up some gems. I love This Week In Rust , because it contains interesting stuff to read, and I imagine having a weekly opt-in newsletter could give some of us the same value 🙂 If done right, you could even place targeted ads and job postings... just an idea, though.
I also like j's idea of personalizing the digest, in order to mix the topics up and get fresh content. Ideally, try to skip posts a user has read or seen in a feed - then I might even give it a try!
I wouldn't really use it. I feel like I already see all the topics I'm interested in on the same day they're written.
If I were too lazy to open the website, I'd prefer an RSS feed instead of email.
A digest once a week is nice. I personally would like to pick the digest topics separate from my main topics, because otherwise it has little value. I like to see everything, since I don't like filter bubbles, but a digest should only be about my 'favorites'.
edit: oh and if possible once a week or at least give us options it's just an interval, a list of topics and an aggregation algorithm :)
No thanks. I try to cut my emails down to a minimum and personal requests otherwise I miss important messages. I would much rather have something on the website somewhere.

Nope. Instead, reading the articles from mobile app (Android and iOS) would be great.
