Links, articles, frameworks, machine learning, updates, downloads. It gets overwhelming sometimes. What are your coping mechanisms? Do you ever take a "day off" from all the tech just to get a cleanse?
When I need a break I take 4 days off and go to another country just to hang out and party. That's right, clubs and laddies :D
I just take a break by doing anything different for a short period, with kids or friends, a movie, a game, etc. I'll do this every week before or without any fatigue.
What do you mean by saying do I take a day off?! These ARE my coping mechanisms. But add to that cooking and the odd task around the house; the odd chat with a friend; some craft work and or writing; perhaps a bit of exercise and a day fills up so quickly :) trying to eat healthy and get enough sleep ... perhaps a weekend away here and there: as long as I feel like my code is improving over time and I am learning, I am happy :) how about you?
Absolutely.
I now a days make it a point to go on vacation at least once a year. Business is business and you can't avoid emergencies so I always bring a laptop / iPad with me just incase and I have had the random occasion of working in a Vegas hotel lobby / coffee shop for a couple hours early morning but I make it very well known before I leave
I have not yet figured out a way to completely detach from my phone though :( that comes with me to the pool and now that the iPhone is water resistant, probably in the pool, haha.
If not on vacation, I enjoy remodelling and working with my "hands"; demolition of plaster and lath walls is very therapeutic. Nothing expels mental fatigue like throwing a hammer into a wall as hard as you can, hundreds of times :)
If not remodelling, (which happens about once a year, except for this year, where it'll happen 3 times) I'm in love with my Peloton Cycle - 45 minute workout with a live instructor or a ride through some far away land; helps take my mind off of things.
If I really need a break; I just lay on the couch and binge watch whatever TV series is hot right now for as long as it takes to get my mind straight. This works, but tends to really screw up deployment timelines.
