I thought about that but I'm afraid the SEO will get messed up. Since there might be links that have been crawled by the time the users has a change to update.
I think that's inevitable if you are allowing users to edit. Maybe you can redirect those old links to new one ? and alert them of the SEO problem if they keep editing
