I wrote applications, programms in all of them. C is the language I learned in school. And If I take the things I helped my girlfriend with when she was studying technical mathematics in theory I could add C++ ... but than I would have to add Ruby as well for starting to write a Redmine plugin.

Go is one where I did not write a professional application with, but just was writing algorithms, a lexer, a http server, ....

I am thinking of adding ReasonML since it's syntax is related to Rust.

And I have elixir and pony on my 'next' list. But currently Rust is taking a lot of time with the experiments, hacking groups, meetups and deeper understanding.

Emil Moe not at all, the languages are vastly different and the only reason why javascript is called javascript was a marketing gag to my knowledge.

besides some syntax similarities I would compare them on that level. Even with the new gral engine which utilizes the V8 the languages are vastly different.

As soon as we view languages from such a 'high level' that JS and Java are similar, JS and PHP, JS and Python, JS and Ruby can also be seen as similar.

A point of view question in my opinion where should we emphasize the similarities? ^^. But to the point no JS and Java are not even that close related ;D ... I would say JS and PHP are closer related. Java is a huge influence on PHP for example, a lot of the design decisions were made because of java.

Anyhow ;D in the end everything is a NAND or NOR gate ;D ....

Hah.. yes, it was a joke. JavaScript is called so because they imitated Java (like Math.round etc). That it would end up being a lot more popular and JavaScript is almost a name promoter for Java today is a bit fun.
