Hey folks 👋
I am starting an infinitely running AMA thread to take questions from the community and gather suggestions/feedback.
Let's discuss about:
... And anything else in general.
Just leave a comment and I'll reply as soon as I can.
Hi Sandeep,
Hashnode its good initiative for Programming community. Appreciate you and your team.
I have some feature requests and Questions.
Feature Requests:

Questions:
Initially you have learned Angular but used React to bulid Hashnode , Why ? Is react better than Angular in speed ?
Hashnode UI looks similar to medium.com , Is this FLAT design or Material design ? and What UI technology has been used for UI design ?
What makes Hashnode fast ? is it because of NodeJS and React or because of high end cloud edge servers or caching servers ?
:)
I went through your answers and realize you are 26 and married :) and having a reasonably successful start-up. Kudos to you.
Do you think people still read technical books? Are all developers more into videos and online courses? And why do you want to open-source? Is it to reduce cost or more community participation?
Why Blockchain? Don't you think it is an inefficient way of doing things? Lot of processing power goes waste. And people banking their trust on crypto algorithms is insane. What if someone finds a solution to solve the hashes faster? (either using better algorithms or powerful computers)
What do you think about DEV.to? It's also a developer-friendly blogging/QnA platform, and it's open sourced. Disclaimer: I don't work at dev.to, just asking as a user.
Hi Sandeep,
Thanks for coming out to play with us and congrats on being married, just wait until the children arrive, that will be tricky lol! Here's a good question!
So recently I've heard that Microsofts just purchased Github, and Github has just purchased Spectum as a community, which is suspected to rival Slack or Stack. I think we all here quite can't stand stack overflow at least, unsure about slack but do you think Hashnode will be able to out run these two competitors?
And any chance of an android application? Would make things much easier for notifications :)
I seem to have random people following me from Hashnode, appearing either on my github/gitlab/twitter feeds and just wondering where they have found me, and they seem to be originating from hashnode when they follow me on here lol!
Catch you round soon!
Hello Sandeep,
I have a doubt, why did you decided to change from MERN stack (the MERN stack you were developing)? I mean, the main points that made you move.
And as a personal question what do you think would be the killer and the best points about this type of stack? I ask this because I'm starting to search for other options like next.js, sails.js, adonis.js and others since I got discouraged by the lack of maintenance.
What advice could you give about this subject? (change, continue to use it)
Regards!
I was initially going to ask about tech stack choices and hosting but they where answered already so I'll instead ask, what are you using jQuery for and do you plan to remove that dependency?
How you guys acquired first 1000 users? How did you do the growth hacking?
What are the 3 most important things you have learned/discovered while running the startup, in order of importance?
What is the tech stack used in Hashnode? How does that scale? How good is it in terms of server bills?
I have been recently researching about server costs of various tech-stacks and it is interesting to know how much it costs to run these things. I came to know of one site which was written in C# which required 12 times more server costs than a similar app with same functionality written in Laravel(PHP) required.
Also, is it opensource?
How do you monetize Hashnode? If not, how do you plan to monetize Hashnode?
What is the best way to reach new audience for SaaS project ? do you have any advice ?
Are you planning to host meetups outside US/India?
I think Hashnode members can help in hosting events in parts of Europe and Africa where the number of beginner developers is more these days.
In your previous article, you mentioned Hashnode APIs. What's the timeline? What features will it have? What can developers do with them?
Hi Sandeep, 👋
Thanks for building Hashnode. Will you introduce badges like "top 10% of Hashnode users this year". Something like what StackOverflow does. I am not sure if it's good for a "friendly" community.
How did you manage to do so much in so little time and how do you learn new stuff, do you use some special learning techniques, or do you naturally pick up stuff very fast?
Also, are you a cat or a dog person? I'm conducting a survey ✍
Good day Sir Sandeep,
What will be the future of hashnode? Thanks.
Thanks for the feature requests! I'll discuss more about them internally.
It's a matter of taste. Some devs like Angular and some others (like me) like React better. I switched to React primarily due to the fact it supported SSR out of the box which was quite necessary for me at that time (around 2013). However, today both are great choices, imo.
I am mostly into development. Maybe our co-founder Syed Fazle Rahman can shed some light on the design aspects. :)
We cache everything aggressively on Cloudflare's edge cache and try to make sure our APIs return response in milliseconds whenever possible. There are still bottlenecks in a few areas and we are working on them.
Hope this helped. :)

How is Hashnode different from Dev.to ?
