Python is thought at many universities and at many schools. there are complete ML systems written in python and so on ... basically ... rule of thumb any language that made it to the tiobe index ... will stick around for a while
@rittam to further @chilimatic's point Python is used for complex calculations - that's why a lot of universities in the UK use it for things STEM subjects. A lot of my friends doing PhD's use Python. :)
