Do you prefer one over the other? Different themes for different tasks?
Dark theme, but whenever I code in daylight I just invert my display colors. I wrote a blog post about my set-up a while ago: hallada.net/2015/06/03/midnight-desktop.html
Dark themes is less blinding but have less readability . Question is... what is more important? webdesignerdepot.com/2009/08/the-dos-and-donts-of…
I personally prefer dark theme, one reason that it is easy on eyes. But I do switch to light themes often for a change.
I used dark themes for years. But what bothers me about them is my editor was the only dark UI. When switching between the browsers, email, and other apps I noticed my eyes kept having to adjust, so for the past year I've been using a light theme and it's a more cohesive experience for me.
Depends on my environment.
If the environment is dark, e.g. I’m working in a dark room, I switch to a dark theme. If I’m in a light area, like on a train, or in my backyard, I switch to a light theme.
This way the different tones of the surroundings don’t distract me.
Dark for coding. Easier on my eyes.
I use a dark theme for coding as I find it easier to distinguish the colours in any syntax highlighting.
I prefer light themes, for everything. Light themes are a lot easier to read in my opinion.
When writing code I go with dark backgrounds. But on websites.. white / light themes just because they have better conversion in sales.
I never realized how much this effects my work. I prefer dark over light with code as color variations pop and identify parts of code quickly for me.
For writing non-code, I prefer lighter themes with little clutter so as to not lose focus what I'm writing.
Dark is the way it goes for me. Put a yellow-orange light in the backdrop, a wine glass next to the laptop. I think I have a date.

I use dark a lot more, carries a kind of ambient feeling with it, I personally find it very relaxing and aesthetically pleasing to have darker themes
