I am a happy user of Notes (the Apple app) and AirTable, but I am somehow not fully satisfied when it comes to work deadlines and small tasks.
I tried Todoist but the UI is not that great for nested items.
No app I've ever tried or developed myself has ever been decent enough to user long term. I always end up reverting to good ol' paper and pen.
Usually there's an issue tracker, so Bitbucket, JIRA, GitLab or GitHub. For anything more broken down for me personally I use my physical calendar - I'm that old school haha.
I'm here to see how many people make their own apps for this :-) It feels like the cliche of both programming and time management to want to build a tailor-made system for tracking tasks, instead of just doing tasks.
I use a bunch
I use google calendar for todos - simple and for me it is enough. For taking notes i use simplenote which has minimal UI, and syncs between devices.
I'm using Windows 10's Microsoft To-Do...I don't like the fact that there's no copy-paste feature, but the simplicity is nice (at least there are reminders and an easy way to check it off). I wonder if anyone else here uses it. I'm pretty much looking for a better app myself.
When it comes to coding to do's, though, it's often so much that I simply use Sublime Text (it's convenient - you don't need to save it even if you turn off the pc, it's offline, and it's right in my face anytime I do anything on a coding project. To tick a to-do off, just use // or /**/
;)
For daily ToDos, a notebook I take everywhere. I just write it down and scratch it off when done.
For code ToDos, comments on the code combined with some type of plugin on the code editor that'll remind me of stuff I need to refactor or fix.
For product ToDos, Jira.
I'm currently working on a todo app as my side project based on my own expectations. Mostly because I couldn't find any good enough. I'm happy to hear you also have issues with existing apps because it means others also waiting for my ultimate solution and as soon as I'm done I will have billion dollar startup company :D In order to be able to deliver all most important features as the minimum, can you please share your expectations with me? What functions do you really need?
