I'm going to share this story....
So I've been working as a front-end developer for about 2-3 years. This August of 2015' I had quit my job as a developer in a small firm in queens and decided to work for a advertising company. So when I got interviewed I was asked alot of front-end questions and the position was for a FRONT-END DEVELOPER!!! Everything was great a really cool team so I thought.... and I decided to take the job.
Now 2 weeks into building a site for them the head developer who is a partner in the company ask me to show him what I had done and so I did. He went over the site he liked it and I went home (end of the day) but then somewhere in the weekend he decides to recode the site (basically taking all of my ideas, design, code, everything i did but just recode it the way that he does it and called it his).
So I come back to work on Monday thinking "Hey I busted my ass working on this site and I'm going to get some kudos or browny points". Once I get to the office I get the news that he re-coded the whole site and was pretty much talking so much shit about me to the other partners instead of coming to me and explaining what he didn't like about my code. So I decided to go over what he did and it was basically all of my code with out comments!!! This got me so pissed off because I never told him it was the final code for production, it was just a prototype basically all the features and I was going to clean it up once I felt it was ready for production.
After that I was really already regretting that I took the job specially after finding out that I was the first developer he's worked with in the company (He was the only developer in the company for the last 4 years since they built it) So he's so used to doing everything himself so anything that I did bothered him regardless because he was so used to doing everything by himself.
So then they said "Hey you've worked with wordpress right?" I said yes I've built a few themes over the years but I'm not a php developer. So he decides to give me the task of building a wordpress plugin from scratch. Mind you I'm not a PHP DEVELOPER! I built the plugin somehow in 2 weeks... And at the end He tells me "You know I could of built this plugin in 2 days, and I found you asking questions on how to build a wordpress plugin on stackoverflow".....
THIS GOT ME SUPER HEATED....
so very calm I said "It's been great working with you guys but I can't work here anymore Thank you"
Now my question to you guys is Have you been through an experience where you hated working with another developer?
Lucas Bento
Full-stack developer building amazing apps with #react, #reactnative, #relay, #webpack, #graphql & #koa
Look since highschool I've learned to work in team. There's always someone who tries to take credit for all the work you've done but the way to manage it is to take it easy, at the end just because it's not his idea, his work and stuff he has just a clue of how things work but don't know really everything about it so take it easy. When something happens like that I would have gone with the boss and told him what happened, not to put an excuse but to make him to notice the problem. In small companies you have to do everything you can, one time I was hired as a web designer and developer but ended up doing some video edition and audio recording and composing so don't feel bad about it and take it on the bright side... learning new stuff. And for the record that kind of persons that try to take advantage of others and steals everything eventually will be fired or be known for doing that when they take the leadership or have to develop something they don't know how to do it. Anyway good luck finding a better job.
He was damn afraid that you were obviously much better than him.
I'm the only developer in a small company for 2 years, when I started there were a few developers who hated me eventhough I was just a beginner.
Luckly they all got fired or quitted, I think the same thing would happen to me if they pushed it as hard as that guy did with you.
I don't really know what I would do in your position, he's there since the beginning, pretty sure he is important to (or one of) the founders.
Hope you get a much better job soon!
