I mentioned in the "Hashnode Originals" thread that I would love to hear more about what developers are working toward. So, I figured it made sense to just go ahead and ask you guys the question: What are you working toward in the longterm?
To provide an example: I have worked for a couple of digital agencies and I absolutely love what they do. I would love to start a digital agency that really cares about helping its clients achieve their goals. I want to help modernize old brands and build innovative web experiences for brands that are looking for something new. Mostly, I want to help people solve problems.
How about you?
As a hobbyist developer, I'm starting my own SaaS app to help create custom online communities for brands, affinity groups and teams. I've started working on it and hope to release a beta version before the end of this year ( 2016 ). And the final product in maybe February.

Currently working on establishing myself a good enough developer to be able to work from remote. My dream is to be able to work while travelling the world. Currently I'm in India and trying to learn more while I am here.
I started out as a graphic designer and am currently working as a front end web developer for a small business. I actually wanted to have my own consultancy firm, but you sometimes get an opportunity to be part of something great, and then you make a move: The website is has been implemented for a couple of clients and the product is one that makes a difference to society and to the world. I could probably stay there... at least for a while. I am interested in growing more towards interactive web sites and animation rather than web forms and static content that takes up a lot of my time. I have developed a couple of games just for fun. I have uploaded one to my github if you want to see 😎
As someone who's been learning as a hobby/ in my free time, maybe eventually getting job. What really excites me is robotics and video games (VR is particularly exciting). I see myself eventually learning to do something in one of those fields.
Well I am currently a desktop and embedded software developer. I prefer coding and sciences rather than designing. I want to make large scale softwares that change the world.
For me, for now, it's really difficult to determine exactly what the long term goal is exactly. I do know I would like to keep on building consumer products in any shape or form. In addition to that, I'm also extremely passionate about process and standards and I feel like I might, at some point in the future, also be interested in helping create better processes and tools for developers in general.
It's still very much a journey for me which is unfolding every day but building quality consumer products is definitely a big priority for me.
Exciting times to be in the profession 😀
At the moment I am developing myself as a Frontend Developer. Although I do write some code in the Backend (It's is fun!), I don't have the time to go deep as I wish.
To answer the question, I wan't to become a full stack developer and eventualy a CTO.
Hmm as developer, I'm not sure, I actually like what I'm doing and I'm a jack of all traits. I would like to have more time to study computer science problems. Doing the math and some interesting small things like stream transformations or helping building a compiler writing libraries for different algorithms in different languages.
Things other people can use if they want. Writing big applications and help designing large scale systems is fun too even smaller pages can be fun. But i don't feel any love in the frontend I always just want to see what's possible not moving buttons or widgets around. That's why I love designers and frontend devs ... i don't want to spend hours communicate over secondary and primary colors or if a slider is better better UX in case XYZ ... I still have to do this a lot because my girlfriend does design and UX optimizations but .... I love her a lot ... customers don't have that benefit ;D ...
Anyhow I think "to learn" is the tl;dr answer :)
I like the part of refactoring, dealing with legacy code, and want to learn more about TDD and DDD. My final goal is to be a CTO or a CEO/CTO of a company, have my own business or managing developers teams, coaching them and work together to improve the application.
I'm more confortable with the backend part, like PHP, integration with databases, services and some other things like cloud computing :)
I'm currently a frontend website developer. I am branching out to be a frontend developer for more platforms. Recently I've learned mobile app and smartwatch development. Next I'm going to learn desktop app programming.
In the longterm I want to solve frontend problems for new platforms as they arise ( VR, AR, voice, motion, IOT, etc ).

4 Years ago I started my own company in Mexico, Technogi and we are helping companies in Mexico to adopt new technologies (currently cloud, BigData and IoT). So In the long term my goal as a developer is to keep learning new things (currently I have a fascination with Blockchain) so we can keep implementing them in big companies.
