I am looking for better open source alternatives to FileZilla.
Thank you a lot for this informative article here but can someone here please recommend me some good ftp clients right here? Thanks in advance.
+1 for Transmit on Mac, although scp from server to my local is pretty common.
Most of my web development happens on a web server that I access over SSH - so instead of using an FTP client to log into my files and access them that way, instead I "mount" my web server to my computer over the network, and as far as my computer is concerned it appears in the file manager the same way a USB drive or SD card would: as removable media.
Once you have mounted your remote file system to your computer, it will appear in the Open and Save dialogs in every application, and it's easy to drag files between folders in your file manager on the remote drive as naturally as it is to work with files on your computer.
So do this I've used:
It's worth looking into as an idea, instead of shopping for another FTP client :D
+1 for Transmit on MacOS - There is no comparison on Windows (and cyberduck is garbage).
It's one of the few reasons that no matter how much Apple may piss me off now a days (all the focus on iPhone and iOS and leaving MacOS and pro users behind) nothing compares on Windows.
If Panic made Transmit for Windows... Let's just say a custom Windows PC is way more powerful then anything Apple is making right now, and cheaper too.
I'm (On Windows) using WinSCP because it can connect through SSH, so I'm not really using it for FTP but rather SFTP. I don't know if it's open source, but it's free.
On Mac I use Transmit - but that's not free.
What's your use case? I haven't used FTP in like, forever.
Maybe there are better options for what you need.

Liamm, hello there. I have already used some of different clients and it seems to me that if you are searching for a good one then you definitely need to check this turboftp one with the ftp sync because it looks pretty reliable and I loved using their service there. Hope that it will be useful for you.
