It was a technology to print a disk label with the same drive your wrote the data.
I know. One of my uncle's old laptops had the tech in the DVD drive. Sad thing is that I always thought the disks to be too expensive to try for myself. I was also just a kid. :P
What meant to say was that CDs themselves died. Lightscribe could not have survived anyway.
Yes your are right. Apart from home cinema, flash drives like USB sticks are now state of the art.
But I don't think this is a bad trend.
