I prefer to listen to ambient electronic music, and instrumentals. It generally falls to the "Slow & calm" end of the spectrum, but I don't mind some fast-paced high BPM EDM from time to time.
I don't prefer lyrics while I am coding/working, because they tend to drown my thought workflow. This is especially true for new songs.
There certainly are exceptions, a few old favourites, songs which I have listened to many times; the lyrics, the music, they actually help me concentrate.
