Cloud is evil! .... I agree. I use local storage myself. But I don't use KeePass. I use the built-in gnome keyring. It integrates well with opera browser on Debian Linux.

Except that you will end up storing the file in the cloud whenever you need to sync several devices unless you go the extra mile and manually sync them every time you add an account or change a password...

Remember that "the cloud" is just marketing jargon for servers.

@amx I have my own NAS running in my own local (W)LAN, protected with several layers. All my devices can connect to it when they are on premise and they can sync whatever I want them to sync (or not to)... music, videos, code,... password files.

The cloud is a place in the internet which is kind of like a fog... or a cloud for that matter^^. You do not know what there is and what is not.

I even go as far as not uploading this password file to my own server (the cloud is not the only evil place for personal data ;) ), because it is hosted at some company outside of my reach.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a NAS is also a server (albeit a really small one), so no matter how many protection layers you have, as long as it has a public-facing IP, it belongs to "the cloud" :)

Although to be fair, the chances of getting a data breach with your setup are close to zero, since well-known attack vectors are effectively mitigated.

@amx C'mon, my NAS does not have a public facing IP. As I said, everything syncs over LAN when I am at home. I do not need sync when I am out, since I only use 1 device (my phone) at a time either way. When I come back it can sync whatever files might have changed. Until I sit down at my computer, the changes were already propagated. The only danger I see is that someone breaks into my phone and steals that file. This means discretion using the phone. Only install what I really need and only if it is trustworthy while using strict privacy guards at the same time. No FaceBook, no WhatsApp, no Games (except 2048 :D )... I am not a casual gamer to begin with.

Well, at least it's all on my own devices, which use non-standard installations and are no lucrative targets compared to some big password-paradise of a company. No one would bother breaking into them, because the time is not worth it :)
