Secondary school — the best days in a life! Let's ditch the nostalgia now. ;) I am curious to know what programming languages people from around the world study in their secondary school life!
I was taught BlueJ — Java Development Environment. At first, I was like WTF is this? My super awesome teacher personally showed me apps that he had built using Java. His exact lines were "You can make an audio player like this if you try to understand BlueJ Java". 😂
In high school I started off with GW-Basic and Apple Basic at first. Next was Quickbasic and Pascal. It was only in university that I went on to Visual Basic and Visual C++/MFC.
A man taught me how to install xamp, and i started with Notepad, PHP, IE browser :)
I was in a very "conservative" (of sorts) school. I learned Latin and Ancient Greek. We had literally only one year of CS and all we did there were theorising about ASCII.
For me was HTML+CSS+PHP back in the day, when <table> was used for the layout of a webpage :D
BASIC on a TRS-80. Skipped the first year and just took the final exam. It was too basic (no pun intended) for me at the time. Went onto the second year. Took a special class in a Technical College while in high school. Was RPG and COBOL on an IBM System 70. This was in the late 80s. That stuff was old then!
As you can read in my story, I learned Borland Delphi. Additionally, we learned very basic HTML, CSS and JS, and some PHP and MySQL. But by the time we had that at school, I already knew my way around and my teacher allowed me to just do my thing while he taught the others.
Java for basic programming, PBASIC for robotics, and I think we did some statistics-related programming, but I don't really remember. Nothing really stuck until I started doing it on my own in college.
Borland C :) and I think we had the old PCs so we had windows 3.10 with a Pentium I and 16MB edo ram. never felt so proud again, as I did, finding the getch command without internet ;D ...
Unfortunately I attended an accounting school, I cannot reply to your question! xD But maybe I can tell you what I'd have like to study if I had attended a school with a language code program...Python is my answer.
We started with Python. Everyone wanted C++ or Java, but we started with Python.

I learnt C and introduction to HTML. I was terrified when I had exams. It was basically because it was very confusing at the start and my professor did not do a good job. She made us write programs in our books. So my starting experiences with programming was very bad at school.
