What's the easiest platform to develop a mobile app?

I'm a beginner who is from a PHP/MySQL background. I want to develop a solid Android app (non webview type). There are like so many different language options to use. Which one do you recommend is simplest to pickup and start?

Be careful. Easiest =/= Best for your use case.

Whilst React Native and similar would be easier they are limited in the native functionality they can achieve. Go through your requirements and determine which method is the best fit, not just the easiest, please.

This is not true. React Native can be as native as you need it to be. You just need to find the right libraries to use, and if necessary write native modules yourself. This of course requires some familiarity with the native platform (i.e. Android and Java in this case).

The upshot of doing it this way, is that porting it to iOS you would have 80% or more of the work already done :)
