This question come to my mind randomly. We spent our most of the time with laptop. So give a name to your laptop. Happy weekend.
I name my devices after some cosmic entity or event, my current laptop's name is Andromeda
I have owned machines named: rozzzly-pc, rozzzly-mobile, rozzzly-work, rozzzly-tablet, and rozzzly-laptop. I like this convention, makes it easy to tell who the owner is, and which device it is.
My personal Mac is MacMinion, my iPhone usually is one model ahead (my iPhone 7 Plus is called iPhone 7s Plus).
My girlfriend calls her machine MacFly, and her iPhone Baudelaire.
My tech has always had SpongeBob references. As of now, I call my phone SpongeBob, my WiFi SSID is always Plankton, and my current laptop is Patrick. Also, I used to call my old laptop Gary because it was super slow. :P
The reason you give your pet a name is because you can condition them on reacting on that certain word. This doesn't apply to things, which are not able to interact with your voice. Therefore there is no "pet" name for things like my laptop :D
So, when I was growing up, my sister named our home computer as Jennifer for reasons best known to herself.
At this moment, I possess two Macbook pros. - one from work (a 13 inch one) and one personal (a 15 inch one). I call them Big Mac and Small Mac. :D
Just like my phone, my laptop is a tool, I don't name my tools or grow attached to it.
My personal laptop is named Wildfire. My computers get named after Red Dwarf ships, characters etc. Wildfire is Ace Rimmer's ship, a small, light ship - suitable as a name for a macbook air :)
Hahaha... "Mr PeeBody" is my laptop name but main server and wrking machine what I build in my office is "JARVIS". I build smart office with one server machine (AMD 8 cores, 16GB RAM, 256 SSD) and Raspberry PI cluster (5 pcs) with voice command and face recogntion. Some small roboticts, automatics and bunch of BASH scripts. Good thing for many things.
My laptop's hostname is rei. Guess what, my tower computer's hostname is asuka. Well. You can guess what inspired me :D
Hmm. I broke that line of naming shortly after. I named my home application server eve.
Last but not least, I decided on the name mei for my smartphone after a very long time thinking about it.
All other devices are not special enough to carry a special name, so they are just called me1, me2, me3, etc.
No. I don't name my electronics. I know a lot of car guys name their cars, especially if their muscle cars; I won't name my car either.
I'll spend 6 hours completely detailing my car. I'll spend a half hour cleaning my laptop; air dusting it, cleaning the ports, surfaces, etc... But at the end of the day, it's just a tool. I love my car; I love my laptop - but don't think for a moment, the minute it dies or fails me, I won't replace it with something better / faster / stronger.
It provides a purpose in a moment of time; letting me get work done; letting me have a bit of fun - but their just tools.
That's why we name humans or pets - their not tools - their living, breathing entities that provide companionship, friendship, etc...
