As per what I have realized about myself, I never thought of coding as just a means of earning money. I do it at work, enjoy it at home at day, night and weekends. The fun (and satisfaction) that you get out of it cannot be directly measured with money (though you still need money to pay your bills and feed yourself and your dependents).
If I were to ever get a chance to change my profession, I would go for it but I'd still be coding during my personal time (who knows at work as well) as my profession and my hobby just coincidentally happen to be the same. In fact, I did not originally wanted to pursue this profession. This may definitely be different for others though.
