I think my first one was the duck, the second one was the totoro, quite a challenging and big piece. But really learned a lot from creating it.

I think the best approach is to simply take something you like and start creating. The great thing about the now is that there are so many skilled people willing to give you advice if you are stuck. (And yes I've used a lot of advice on that piece)
