A fixed price is only fair when both sides can describe the outcome in acceptance criteria. Quoting before that work is done just moves the argument into change requests later.
The clean pattern matches what this post argues: a short paid discovery that produces scope, risks, assumptions, and a demoable definition of done. Then lock a fixed-price build for that slice only. If the product needs continuous iteration after launch, switch models on purpose instead of pretending the original SOW still fits.
Ascendra Ventures prices most early builds that way: one atomic technology problem with a fixed outcome, after the discovery notes are written down. Worth using that split when you evaluate fixed-price freelance work.
