The steps you offered don't work for me. I changed the executable permission, but the folders for the config file don't exist on a fresh Ubuntu install. No steps to remediate offers and left stuck at that point. Trying to run the new executable doesn't work. Went the Deb method, hoping that works. Only suggestion is to try and put yourself in the shoes of the person that doesn't have a very strong Linux background, trying to follow your steps exactly.
