Yea for the longest time I thought focus, focus, focus. Forcing it inevitably caused me to lose interest. There are benefits of knowing a little about a lot.
I like the idea of coming back to topics to keep from burning out. Your starting point is not zero then.

I can highly relate to this as I am a dabbler too. Whenever I start doing something new I put 100% in it. Then after a few weeks, months or years I "give up" and turn towards something else.
I considered this as negative for quite a long time, but not so long ago I realized it is not just not a bad habit but it is pretty useful.
I love to learn/do things which are not related to each other, but as I look for ways to combine it, I usually find it. This is how I made my water droplet phtographs by combinning photography, hardware tinkering and programming.
To avoid burnout, nowadays I do many thing in parallel and switch to another topic whenever I get bored with some of them, then later come back to the previous ones.
