Why Are Both Chi-Square Test and ANOVA (F-Test) Used for Classification?

While studying Feature Selection in Machine Learning, I noticed something that confused me. My lecture notes said that both Chi-Square Test and ANOVA (F-Test) are suitable for classification problems.
