Would you make the switch to the HSL color format now?

It's probably more human friendly, but I just see it as a storage format. I rarely try to decipher RGB color codes by hand, the IDE shows me the color automatically.

I can image that people who type color codes by hand would prefer HSL though. Do graphics designers do that? I imagine HSL is much easier if you like to do it by hand.

To me, it's like how big endian makes more sense than little endian, but I don't care that most systems use little endian, because I'm not in the habit of reading streams of bytes...

You make some very good points. Let me try to address those.

The way I see it, HSL will be useful for situations like, you have some given color as background to an element. Now you want to have a slightly darker shade of the same color, the obvious choice for this currently would be to use a color picker. You can certainly use a color picker. Now what if you want another color again which is a slight variation of first color or even what if you want to choose a color completely complement to original color? These are the cases where I would see me reaching for HSL. Now if i have a predefined design, and also a predefined color palette for my website, this may not be that useful(I would still use HSL, even in this case). But if you are building your own site by hand, choosing your own colors, then HSL will come a lot handy saving a lot of time.
