To make workflow and APEX a dream team the APEX developers must know the basics and more about the workflow universe. It´s not the typical way of building APPs so any introduction to APEX & Workflow is a good investment. I would say .. go ahead on your path ...it´s the right one and your writing is very good!

Hi, good write up to begin with. Not sure you know the paper comparing APEX Workflow and Flows for APEX, can't put the link here but if you search for it on Oracle APEX blog you'll find it. Happy to discuss the roadmap of APEX Workflow. Coming from a Process Automation background (I was the architect for Oracle BPM Suite and represented Oracle in OMG for BPMN 2.0 and CMMN 1.0 standard) it is hard to believe how APEX did without Workflow and it is even harder to get process thinking into the APEX community. Niels de Bruijn will probably agree. But there is hope, I see more interest every year at APEX Connect and DOAG conferences but it will take time. Glad there are people like you outside who blog about process automation in APEX, please keep on doing that.
